Miconia chionophila  Naud.;  Melastomataceae

Arbustos pequeños con los tallos tendidos y rastreros, con pelos glandulares en las ramitas y hojas. Las hojas son opuestas, ovadas, hasta 1,5 cm de largo, con pelos esparcidos en los bordes, con 3 venas sobresalientes. Las flores por lo general se encuentran por debajo de las ramas, son solitarias, de hasta 1,5 cm de diámetro, con forma de copa (hipanto) y con 4 pétalos y 4 estambres de color blanco; el estigma es grande. Los frutos son carnosos y verdes.

Distribución: Venezuela a Bolivia. En la PNC es común en los bosques de Polylepis y ocasionalmente escondida entre pajonales.

Small shrubs, with trailing stems; the twigs and leaves are covered with glandular hairs. The leaves are opposite, ovate, up to 1.5 cm long, with scattered hairs on the margins, and with 3 raised veins. The flowers are solitary and generally beneath the branches, up to 1.5 cm diameter, cup-shaped (hypanthium), with 4 white petals and 4 stamens; the stigma is large. The fruits are fleshy and green.

Distribution: Venezuela to Bolivia. In CNP it is common in the Polylepis forests and occasionally hidden among the tussock grasses.
